Vignettes: An Evening of Original Chamber Music In-Person

An intimate evening of original music written in Mill Valley by composer Andrew Vickers, who is most influenced by Brahms, Debussy, and Phillip Glass. Program includes a selection of his original Piano Vignettes, a Cello and Viola duo, and the premier of Vickers’ Color Quartet.

Andrew Vickers was born in LA. He received a Masters of Composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where he studied under David Garner. His work has been performed by orchestras and chamber ensembles across the Bay Area and featured in films, podcasts, and documentaries. The SF Examiner describes Vickers’ music as “cosmic with a quietude of the vast universe.” He now lives in Mill Valley with his wife and young family.

 

String Quartet bios 

Joseph Christianson (Violin) is a member of three-time Grammy® nominated Quartet San Francisco. He has collaborated with artists including Augustin Hadelich, Tower of Power, Take 6 and Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band. Joseph has appeared on American Public Radio's Performance Today as well as EWTN. As part of the Skywalker Symphony orchestra he has performed in many soundtracks for television, film and games. Joseph grew up in San Luis Obispo, CA and studied at Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University and San Francisco Conservatory.

 

Justine Preston (Viola) is a musician based in San Francisco; they graduated in 2014 with a masters in Viola Performance from San Francisco Conservatory of Music. They frequently perform in a variety of styles, from classical to hip hop, and writing and recording music with their experimental chamber pop band, Love Can’t Save You Padmé. Justine enjoys mixed-media performances and has collaborated with dancers, visual artists, poets, and circus performers.

 

Kyle Stachnik (Cello) recently graduated with a masters in Chamber Music at The San Francisco Conservatory of Music studying under Professor Jennifer Culp. As a chamber musician he has performed with artists such as Andrés Cárdenes, Amy Schwartz Moretti, Marcy Rosen, and Jodi Levitz. Kyle is the assistant principal cello of the Bay Philharmonic and can be seen performing regularly with the New Century Chamber Orchestra, Vallejo Festival Orchestra, and Marin Symphony.

 

Sam Weiser (Violin), formerly a member of the award-winning Del Sol Quartet, has studied and performed chamber music with many of today’s greatest musicians and pedagogues. He regularly pioneers works by living composers, premiering hundreds of new works by composers such as Vijay Iyer, Huang Ruo, and Chen Yi. He also enjoys orchestral performance, having served as concertmaster for the California Symphony, Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra, and the New England Conservatory Chamber Orchestra.
